Role: Senior Quality Engineer – Welding Location: Burnley Salary: Negotiable Tailor Made are Seeking a Senior Quality Engineer to join an international well-established manufacturing company in the Burnley area. This is an exciting opportunity to work within all production departments to ensure the quality related activities are meeting the standards and customer expectations.

Roles & Responsibilities

The Role:

  • Responsible for the day-to-day Welding Engineering requirements within the organisation, inclusive of Welding Engineering support across group companies
  • Responsible for the technical requirements of NDE inclusive of pressure testing, and its deployment through the NDE technicians within the organisation
  • Maintain the company’s Special processes policy and procedures to the various National and International standards
  • Provide technical support in all areas of Special processes
  • Conduct inhouse training for Special processes quality related activities, including ANST Lv II certification
  • Ensure and insist that an investigation takes places for any process failure
  • Undertake problem investigation and root cause determination, for Special processes related issues
  • Assist in problem investigation and root cause determination for other areas
  • Conduct audits for quality of outgoing parts, including service-designated parts
  • Develop and qualify new procedures and operators for Special processes when required and ensure part quality levels are maintained, improved and that quality inspection tools are available to achieve this
  • Provide support to the production inspection requirements as designated.
  • Recommends necessary adjustments to parts and machinery to ensure proper production run
  • Support the Company in controlling and maintaining quality standards
  • Provide for the training of welders/ NDT operators in quality related activities of Special processes
  • Approve the selected WPS(s) and supporting PQR(s), welder qualification records, and any additional information (e.g., weld maps, additional NDE or inspection, cost exceptions, etc.) to the Project Manager
  • Liaise with the Inspection Department on all aspects of Special processes

The ideal candidate will:

  • Must have a welding specialist diploma or (EWS) equivalent combination of education and experience
  • NDE PCN and/ or ANST LV II in PT as a minimum but LT, VT and RT would be preferred.
  • CSWIP 3.1 Weld Inspector (minimum)
  • Knowledge in the use of checking fixtures as well as experience in using precision measurement tools (height, gauge, Vernier, Micrometer, etc.)
  • Knowledge of GD&T and blueprint reading
  • Knowledge of Destructive and Non-Destructive Evaluation testing and equipment
  • Minium of 5 years of welding experience
  • Ability to communicate to all levels of plant personnel with ease
  • Ability to conduct root cause analysis using various problem-solving tools.
  • Must be flexible to adhere to customer needs
